Oscar’s French Bistro Review by Citylicious blogger  Sadie Jones

So as a treat I was going to Warwick to have a massage and thought what better way to end a relaxing day than dinner. I had been invited to review Oscars which is a French Bistro over in Leamington Spa.

On arrival we were greeted by the manager Pascal who said we could sit where we liked, so I opted for a seat by the window and door which was ajar as it was quite a warm day. We had only been seated a short while when we were given a glass of champagne along with the menu, there were already complimentary olives and saucisson on the table with fresh bread.

I thought I would go for the Evesham asparagus and south coast sautéed scallops as I thought it would go nicely with the champagne and my other half went for the salmon, dill and caper fishcake with creamed spinach and lemon butter.  Both were delicious, the scallops were cooked to perfection, the fishcakes which were handmade on the premises were really flavoursome, and the lemon butter was just right. The presentation was absolutely beautiful.

After such a great start, I was now looking forward to the main. We both went for the new season Mini Rack of Lamb and Persillade. I requested a red wine to go with the main, a Chateau St Romans 2013, Bordeaux and as we waited I decided to have a little wander to explore the rest of the restaurant. The room we were in was quaint with maybe around 7 tables and I was convinced that it couldn’t be the only room… I was right.  There is a larger dining room upstairs which has a more formal feeling but is also a lovely space.

So after having had a look around I was back at my table just in time for the main. The lamb was cooked just how I like it, medium rare and served on a bed of vegetables accompanied by roast potatoes. Everything was lovely, although I felt the ratatouille had a bit too much tomato, but that was definitely a personal preference as my other half cleaned his plate!

By this point I was feeling rather pleased and full to just the right level. Pascal came over to check how the meal was and to offer a dessert I decided to wait for a while, that lasted about 15 minutes! Watching some great deserts passing was too much to resist and so I had the lemon posset with a mix of berries (raspberries, blackberries and blueberries). Perfect finish to the meal. Overall the food was great and the service matched it, if you’re in Leamington Spa anytime soon, I suggest a visit you won’t be disappointed .
